In the Anti-Oppression Certificate Program, explore and learn more about sexism and misogyny, ageism, ableism, anti-Indigenous racism and oppression toward 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, among others, in the Canadian context. Navigate instances and impacts of systems of oppression and reflect on current stereotypes and tropes affecting equity-deserving group members. Strengthen skills to become an ally, implement strategies and take action to build a more inclusive environment at Western and beyond.

Upon successful program completion, you'll be awarded a digital badge via MyCreds, complete with a unique URL. Display this badge on your online profiles to proudly showcase your achievements and expertise.

Please note: You must upload all of your certificates of completion for the online modules as part of the request form. Certificates are processed at the start of each month and may take at least five weeks to reach recipients.
Program Details
Complete the prerequisite Award of Achievement in Anti-Oppression (4 online modules) and 1 workshop.
Program format: Complete five online modules (100% online and asynchronous) and attend at least one workshop or webinar.
The Anti-Oppression Certificate Program consists of five e-learning modules you can navigate at your own pace. We also offer virtual and in-person workshops that can be found on our website. All of the modules are open for registration at any time.
Assessments: Once you complete each module, participants complete quizzes posted in OWL. There are ten questions in each quiz. You need eight correct answers to pass and be issued a certificate of completion for each module.
Duration: Approximately 12 hours (approximately 10 hours to complete online modules and 2 hours in a workshop).
Cost: Free for Western constituents.
Badge: After completing the Award of Achievement in Anti-Oppression, 5 online modules and attending a workshop, you will be awarded the Anti-Oppression Certificate and digital badge.

To complete the Anti-Oppression Certificate Program, you must complete the following 5 online modules:
Unpacking and Addressing Misogyny and Sexism
Unpacking and Addressing Ableism
Unpacking and Addressing Ageism
- A Western email account.
- A computer, laptop or tablet using Windows, macOS or iOS
- The latest version of a web browser (or previous major version release).
- A reliable internet connection.
You should also have the technology to watch videos, listen to audio, and download and read PDF files.
You will also need access to a video camera and microphone for synchronous virtual workshops.
