In 2005, Jacqueline (Jax) Cato received her Library Tech diploma from Seneca College and accepted a part-time position as the E-resources Assistant at the Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL). As OCUL grew, she was promoted to the Information Resources Coordinator role upon graduating from the University of Toronto. While in this role, she managed the life cycle of all of OCUL's 250 resources, including negotiation, collection assessment, licensing, invoicing, and budget management for the 21 OCUL universities. Managing several resources across Canada for various library sectors through Consortia Canada.
Cato joined Western University in 2022, collecting for the Law discipline and managing all licensing/contracts for Western Libraries' electronic and print resources.
She has a Library Technician Diploma from Seneca Polytechnic, a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Women's Studies from York University and a Master of Library Information Science from the University of Toronto.
Cato's research interests include collaborative collecting through consortial initiatives and shared technology. She is researching how/if library schools actively recruit students from racialized communities to ensure diversity in Canadian librarianship.
