Why was ID2EALS started?

Many postsecondary institutions in Ontario and throughout Canada have established equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) offices within recent years. Although the organizational structure and names of these offices vary, they are typically led by senior-level administrators (e.g., Associate Vice-Presidents, Vice-Provosts, Directors) who have been tasked with advancing EDI at their respective institutions. This is a challenging endeavor given many of these offices are in their infancy and there are limited best-practice resources targeted toward Canadian, and more specifically, Ontario postsecondary institutions. As a result, many EDI offices employ a “learn as you go” approach, which limits their capacity to advance EDI in a timely, yet effective, manner. Recognizing this challenge, Western University’s Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion is organizing the inaugural ID2EALS.

Where is ID2EALS being held?

For the inaugural year, ID2EALS is being held at Western University located on the tranditionals lands of the Anishinaabek (Ah-nish-in-a-bek), Haudenosaunee (Ho-den-no-show-nee),  Lūnaapéewak (Len-ahpay- wuk) and Chonnonton (Chun-ongk-ton) Nations in London Ontario, Canada. The symposium will be held from May 22-24, 2024.

What is the format of ID2EALS?

This three-day symposium will feature concurrent sessions, workshops, and keynote presentations related to the advancement of EDID in Ontario postsecondary institutions.
