Western's Black Graduation Celebration 2025
Calling all 2025 Black Graduates! Join us for Western's Black Graduation Celebration on Saturday, June 7, from 3 to 6 p.m.
This event is open to all Black-identifying members of the Class of 2025 (spring and fall) across undergraduate, master’s and doctoral programs. Family members, Western leaders, Black Faculty and Staff and Black community leaders are also invited to attend.
Western's Black Graduation Celebration is an inclusive event, designed to recognize the academic successes and leadership of Black students graduating from Western and our affiliated institutions (King’s University College and Huron University). We're excited to reflect upon the unique journeys of our graduates together and acknowledge families, peers and mentors who have supported them along the way. This event provides an affirming space that centers the lived experiences of Black students, honours their cultural identities and acknowledges the communities who have supported them along the way. All students will still attend Western’s convocation ceremonies as scheduled.
Each Black graduate will receive a commemorative Kente stole, a powerful symbol of scholarly achievement and pride in African Diasporic heritage.
We will have a networking and mocktail hour with Black faculty and staff, university leadership and community leaders, followed by a formal celebration and the presentation of Black Excellence Awards. Appetizers, refreshments and sweet treats will be provided.
Please RSVP with your guest information and the phonetic pronunciation of your name by Friday, May 30.
