Unpacking and Addressing Anti-Asian Racism
This module examines the roots and ongoing impacts of anti‑Asian racism, unpacking the myths and stereotypes that continue to cause harm. Participants will explore the intersecting factors that shape the experiences of Asian communities in Canada. The module also introduces practical strategies for recognizing and addressing harmful behaviours, including microaggressions, and for fostering environments that support equity and respect.
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- Define anti‑Asian racism and related key concepts
- Understand the harmful impacts of historical Canadian laws and policies on Asian communities
- Recognize how contemporary attitudes, narratives and social trends continue to affect Asians in Canada
- Apply practical strategies to respond to and interrupt anti‑Asian racism in both interpersonal and institutional contexts
