Unpacking and Addressing Anti-Black Racism

This module examines the roots and ongoing impacts of anti‑Black racism, tracing how historical and contemporary narratives, laws and practices have caused harm. This module will define anti‑Black racism and related key concepts, exploring the intersecting factors that shape the experiences of Black communities in Canada. Participants will also discover practical strategies that can be used to recognize and address anti‑Black racism in everyday life.

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • Define anti‑Black racism and related key concepts
  • Identify the harmful impacts of historical Canadian laws and policies on Black communities
  • Recognize how contemporary Canadian attitudes and social trends continue to affect Black communities
  • Apply practical strategies to address anti‑Black racism in both interpersonal and institutional settings
